Mandate and context
The Montreal Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce commissioned Volume10 to conduct a study on the evolution of the performing arts and cultural venues in the Montreal metropolitan area. This study takes place in a context where Montreal, renowned for its artistic diversity and cultural dynamism, seeks to strengthen its creative ecosystem. The objective is to provide insights into the performing arts and propose recommendations to foster urban creativity, while addressing the current post-pandemic challenges.
Implementation and solutions
Volume10 adopted a methodology based on the analysis of available data and conducted interviews with 51 key stakeholders in the sector. The study primarily relied on data from the Observatoire de la culture et des communications du Québec, as well as insights from the Daigle/Saire study for the Working Group on Arts Attendance.Additionally, Volume10 conducted a survey with organizations supported by the Conseil des arts de Montréal, with input from several cultural experts. This thorough analysis helped assess the impact of the performing arts and identify the dynamics of cultural dissemination.
Impact and outcomes
The study's findings will inform and guide strategic recommendations for the future of the performing arts in Montreal. The final report includes a roadmap to engage the community in the development of the cultural sector and reassert the role of creativity in the city. This study also provides a framework for strengthening the connection between creative industries, cultural venues, and the support of public and private actors, while considering the specific challenges posed by the pandemic.
