Study on the Business Community's Contribution to Montreal's Festivals and Events

Mandate and context

Given the challenges festivals and events face in sustaining their financial models, Tourisme Montréal has tasked Volume10 with conducting a study to assess the contribution of the business community. The goal is to identify obstacles to partnerships and propose concrete, mobilizing solutions that facilitate alignment between the needs of festivals and events and those of the business sector.

Implementation and solutions

As part of this mandate, Volume10 conducted around fifty interviews and workshops with key stakeholders from the arts, culture, and business sectors. The study also draws on data from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts de Montréal, surveys conducted by Léger, and findings from the Daigle/Saire study for the Task Force on Performing Arts Attendance. These combined research efforts, interviews, and analyses have helped identify the barriers to business sector contributions in the form of donations, sponsorships, volunteerism, and employee programs.

Impact and outcomes

The key findings of the study will guide Tourisme Montréal's strategic recommendations. A roadmap has also been developed to mobilize the various stakeholders within the ecosystem to ensure the long-term sustainability of the financial model for festivals and events.
